Premise 3 - Money, security
This is only true for some risks – the slump in the housing market, or rapid inflation for example. Risks such as accidents, or contracting a major illness may or may not benefit from having more wealth. In any case we all know it is the one item we don’t have insured that gets lost or broken. The point is that the risks are unforeseen, so by definition they cannot all be provided for. It is also apparent that there are many risks in which having wealth is poor consolation. So, while it may be prudent and psychologically comforting to have a little set aside for an unexpected event, a rational mind should not trade loss of time on activities that bring happiness by providing for things that may never happen.
So, we’ve shown you where the big chunks or time are – in changing what you do everyday. For those poor deluded souls (and I was one) that believe that remaining in a full time job and using technology to increase your personal efficiency so releasing time I ask the following.
How many, hours, days, weeks have you spent this year buying, setting up, configuring, transferring files on PCs/PDAs/Personal phones/IPods only to repeat the exercise when the settings get trashed? Of course you should have taken a backup…we all know that… who does?
The internet is a whole new opportunity to lose your marbles and large slugs of what used to be your life! What with BT, routers modems, cables, wireless etc… and when the darn thing finally consents to work for 20 minutes you finally get to wade through 60 e-mails which are either, full of meaningless drivel or, somehow seem to have the inside track in your inside leg. Don’t start me off on Sat Nav.
