Welcome to QLagoon – A Brand New Site for the Luckiest Generation
We’re here to help and stimulate those of us entering the so-called third phase of our lives. This is a time when we are planning our retirement from full-time work, possibly with the kids off our hands; actively looking forward to having more fun and new experiences.
As a part of the population commonly referred to as baby boomers (hatched between 1946 and 1964) we are said to share some common characteristics and experiences, some good, some not so good.
The Good Stuff
The benefit of growing up in a (largely) peaceful world
Affluence – accumulation of wealth, both earned and inherited way in excess of previous (and possibly following) generations
Access to better education
Unprecedented consumer choices
Frequent foreign travel
Familiarity with technology and a faster pace of societal change
The Iffy Stuff
Driven and demanding and demographically the biggest population
Selfish and self-obsessed – the “me” generation
Lifestyle priorities winning over family ties
Dynamic and stressful working environments
Less trustful of the state to look after our well-being in later years
Geographically removed from our parents and siblings to a greater degree
QLagoon is all about Where we go from here – what are we really after?
We, at QLagoon, believe it comes down to Health, Wealth and Happiness, with the emphasis on the latter. And, guess what – we don’t have the answer! No one does – it’s a complex question of balance. Looking out for the kids and parents, finding a life partner, recovering from life-events, efficient pension planning etc… What we aim to do is provide an environment where these issues can be debated, experiences shared and common myths challenged – will a second home in the sun really make me happy or, just make my life more complex?
We’ll provide some of the questions and processes to seed the debate – hopefully in a humorous way – we’ll also plug you into, or point you towards the latest thought-provoking media – forums, books, articles, websites, blogs etc… Then we want you to contribute and drive us in the right direction. We found it fun to develop a series of life-plan Zone Tests which helps capture the aspirations, trade-offs and our personal definitions of happy in the QLagoon Happiness Engine – it’s really astonishing how much time we spend on activities A-L when we yearn to be doing activities M-Z. We tend to be stuck in a groove and never really ask ourselves why. As with all plans the chances of pulling it all off are remote but remember as baby boomers it’s in our blood to strive. And hey, it’s later than you think!
